Welcome to the May newsletter. Enclosed with this newsletter you will find details and booking forms for Junior and Senior Camps. Please remember your ponies need to be vaccinated. As you can see from the event reports, I we've have already had a good deal of success so far this season. Congratulations for our recently formed Prince Philip Cup teams and good luck at Zone in July. It's good to see some new faces with Quantock Pony Club. Good luck to all our members for a successful and fun season.

Dressage Rallies

These will be held close to Badgworth Arena on the following dates and will cost £5.00

  • Tuesday 6 June 2006 - 4.30pm onwards

  • Tuesday 20 June 2006 - 4.30pm onwards

  • Tuesday 11 July 2006 - 4.30pm onwards

Please return the attached slip, at least a week before, to book your place
and phone me on the Sunday before for your times.

Event Reports

 

Quantock Pony Club Team Show Jumping at
Badgworth on 2 April

  • Class 1 -10 years and under: Eight teams and 3
    individuals entered. Two of the teams were QPC. Quantock Blue - Henry Coate, Emma Perry. Harriet Trollope-Bellew and Daisy Williams - and Quantock Green - Crossida Cox, Ryan Duddridge, Jess Mortimer and Abi Porter. Ben Price rode as an individual. Abi won Best QPC Member.

  • Class 2 - 12 years and under: Nine teams and 3
    individuals entered. Two of the teams were QPC. Quantock Yellow - Kaite Gibbs, Charlotte Perry, Abi Porter and Emma Trollope-Bellew - gained 6th as a team. Best QPC Member was Charlotte with both Charlotte and Kaite riding double clears. Quantock Pink - Henry Coate, Lucy Courtney, Amelia Daniel and Abi Porter - finished on 12 faults.

  • Class 3 - 15 years and under: Five teams and 3
    individuals entered. We had one team - Lucy Barker, Lucy Courtney, Nicola Perry and Rachel Webber - who gained team 2nd, finishing on 8 faults. Nicola gained best QPC Member and came 4th individually. Fiona Pascal rode her young horse, Echo, as an individual (HC).

  • Class 4 - open: Four teams entered. We had one team ¬
    Lucy Barker, Jamie Courtney, Nicola Perry and Rachel Webber. They won this class as they were the only team to finish. Lucy won best QPC Member. Fiona Pascal rode as an individual.

  • Class 3 - 3'3" Individual: Four riders entered. Fiona
    Pascal won it on Kenny and gained best QPC Member.
    Jamie Courtney was 4th

Well done to all competitors. It was nice to see some new faces. Also a big thank you to all the helpers who gave up their time to assist as this fundraising event could not run without you all!

Prince Philip Cup Team

 

On Sunday 7 May our Senior and Junior A Prince Philip Cup Teams qualified at the Area competition to go through to Zone on 8 July. Our Junior B Team won the turnout.
The teams were:

  • Senior Team -Lucy Courtney, Rebecca Furber, Charlotte Long, Jessica Long and Luke Price

  • Junior A Team - Tilly Barker, Henry Coate, Cressida Cox, Charlotte Long and Abi Porter.

  • Junior B Team - Kate Brailey, Ryan Duddridge, Laura Kyd, Tom Martin and Chris Roberts.

If you would like to go along on 8 July and cheer the teams on you will be very welcome.

West Somerset PC Team Show Jumping at Conquest on 23 April

We entered 4 teams for this competition.

  • Class 1 -10 years and under: Quantock Blue - Henry Coate, Emma Perry, Abi Porter and Daisy Williams - finished on 0 faults and gained team 2nd with Abi getting 3rd individually and Emma getting 4th individually with Henry, Emma and Abi all jumping double clears. Quantock Green - Cressida Cox, Ryan Duddridge, Ben Price and Hannah Larkin (from Weston Harriers) - finished on 4 faults and gained team 4th with Ben jumping a double clear.

  • Class 2 - 14 years and under: Quantock Red - Henry Coate, Bobbi Larcombe, Jess Mortimer and Charlotte Perry - and Quantock Purple - Cressida Cox, Jess Mortimer, Nicola Perry and Abi Porter.

Neither team were placed but well done to all competitors.

Quantock PC Mini Show Jumping at Cannington on 29 April

We had another good day at this very popular event:

  • Class 1: Is a handy pony type class and all competitors received a rosette.

  • Class 2 -1'0": In the aided section Holly Porter came 2nd and 3rd. In the un-aided section Tom Martin came1st, Chris Roberts came 2nd and Harriet Bloxham came 4th,

  • Class 3 -1'3": Abi Porter came 1st, Chris Roberts came 2nd, Ryan Duddridge came 3rd, Tom Martin came 4th, Keri Bloxham came 5th and Harriet Bloxham came 6th.

  • Class 4 -1'6": Matthew Seaboume came 1st, Kate Brailey came 3rd, Ryan Duddridge came 4th, Tom Martin came 5th and Laura Kyd came 6th.

  • Class 5 -1'9": Abi Porter came 1st, Matthew Seaboume came 2nd and 411\ and Emma Perry came 6th.

  • Class 6 - 2'0": Abi Porter came 1st, Emma Perry came 3rd, Laura Kyd came 4th and Henry Coate came 6th. Well done to all who took part.

Camps

Senior Camp will be held at Stockland Lovell from Tuesday 1 August until Sunday 6 August and will cost £155.00.

Junior Camp will be held at Stockland Lovell from Wednesday 2 August until Saturday 5 August.  For all four days it will cost £80.00.  For three days it will cost £60.00.  Your child will do either 3 or 4 days, depending which ride they are in.

Camp letters will be enclosed with the next newsletter.

Once again this popular event will be held at
Tanyard with kind permission from Jayne and Simon Stretton.

Junior Fun Ride and BBQ

Wednesday 31 May at 2.00pm

Due to the success of the Easter Egg Hunt, we though we would run a similar day during half term. This will follow the same pattern as the Easter Egg Hunt but with a BBQ instead. The cost is £2 per child/adult, meeting at Great Wood, going for a ride in small groups and then having a BBQ. If you would like to come, please complete the attached slip, with payment.

  • 30/31 May -Inter-Area Tetrathlon at Taunton/Stockland Lovell. Entries for this will be limited so we must
    make them early. Classes for all ages, including Senior Novice, but entrants must be capable of jumping
    up to height course (Mini 2'6", Junior and Novice 3', Senior 3'6").

  • 2 July - Cotley PC Mini/Junior Tetrathlon at Axminster.

  • 8/9 July - Spooners PC Tetrathlon at Tavistock.

  • 15/16 July - Area Tetrathlon at Pontispool.

  • 5/6 August - Taunton Vale Harriers PC Tetrathlon at Wellington.

  • 12/13 August - Regional Tetrathlon at Milton Keynes.

  • 15 August - Quantock PC Mini Tetrathlon at Taunton.

  • 18/20 August - Tetrathlon Championships at Hartpury College

  • 23/24 September - Silverton PC Junior/Mini Area Tetrathlon at Dawlish/Bicton.

This is taking place on 22 July at Stockland Lovell and is being run by Quantock PC. We are looking for volunteers to help with the smooth running of this event so if your children aren't competing and you can help with jump judging, stewarding, etc. please contact me.

year old. 100% in traffic, load and shoe. A wonderful second pony who has been with the same family for four years. This is a very sad sale as my youngest daughter is moving on to a bigger pony.

A Reminder for Camp

With so many Pony Club jackets, rugby shirts and sweatshirts around now, please make sure that I you name each item clearly so that we can identify stray items abd reunite them with their owners!

 

Rules for Rallies

The committee would like to draw your attention to the following statement from the Pony Club Year Book 2006.

"At Pony Club rallies and other mounted activities the following are unacceptable:

  • Ponies that are aged four years or under (except at the discretion of the District Commissioner).

  • Ponies that are infirm through old age.

  • Ponies that, are ill, thin or lame.

  • Ponies that are a danger to their riders or to other Members or their ponies.

  • Mares that are heavy in-foal, mares in milk and mares with foal at foot.

Stallions can only be ridden at Pony Club events by Members if they obtain written permission from their District Commissioner and must wear identifying discs on their bridle in the interests of safety."

Event Photographer

At camp this year lain Bums, a photographer who is well known locally, will be there on a couple of days taking photos of all activities throughout the camp day. He will then have these photos for sale on the Friday from tea time until supper time, during which time parents are welcome to come and view/purchase them. Payment is required at the time of purchase. The photos can be printed on site so you will get your photos straight away. They will be a lovely keep-sake of your week at camp.

Iain will also be covering our other events this year which will include Area Eventing, our Mini One Day Event and Hunter Trial

Iain very kindly gives a donation towards Pony Club funds.
