Water Aid Gala Evening at Badgworth
Arena Helen Griffiths and Celia Gadd organised a Gala Evening performance at Badgworth Arena to try and raise £5,000 to give 500 people in Africa fresh water. The evening performance was hosted by Matt Ryan and acts included Jousting, Dressage, Western Riding, Farriers versus Eventers Gymkhana Games, Show Jumping and Pony Club Games. Some of the Quantock Pony Club were invited to be part of the performance. The first act was called . Grass Roots' and we had four riders who rode on the lead-rein doing some gymkhana games. They were Jade Coles (7 years), Lauren Massey (6 years), Holly Porter (4 years) and Luke Roberts (3 years) together with two children from the Polden Hills Pony Club. They got lots of cheers for riding so well and looked like they enjoyed it very much. later there was a Prince Phillip Cup demonstration and Quantock was represented by Henry Coate, Ben Price, Luke Roberts and James Webber. They were against much older and faster teams from the Mendip and Banwell Pony Clubs but they got the most cheers as they were the under-dogs, especially when James Webber's pony, Rocky, bucked and he did a complete somersault, landing on his feet, getting straight back on again and completing! 1t was a very late finish with the Show
Jumping going on until 1 .00am but all the children were still awake
(including Luke). When Helen announced that £6,000 had been raised, balloons
were let down from the roof to celebrate and Quantock Pony Club children
went into the area and popped them all (frightening all the remaining
horses!). There is a photo in West Country Riders, November issue. |
