What is it?
It is a Pony Club Competition combining cross-country riding with running, shooting and swimming. Although it was originally introduced as a competition solely for boys, there are now separate competitions for boys and girls.

Classes
The competition is divided into the following classes:

Girls Minimus (age 11 and below)
Boys Minimus (age 11 and below)
Junior Girls (age 12 - 14)
Junior Boys (age 12 - 14)
Senior Girls (15 to 21)
Senior Boys (15 to 21)

Shooting
This phase uses .177 in Air Pistols and Pony Club Targets.

The distances given in the Rule Book are 10 metres for Senior Boys and Girls and 7 metres for all others.

There will be a firing point steward who gives the commands. The commands used should be those used in Official Pony Club competitions for static targets. The commands should be given in a normal voice, not shouted. They are:

  • Load
  • Are you ready
  • Stand by
  • Fire
  • Stop (after 4 seconds)
  • Reload
  • Are you ready
  • etc.
  • At the end of five shots - Guns Down

The actual score on the two targets (10 shots in all) is multiplied by ten to give a maximum possible score of 1,000.

Swimming
The swimming section is scored by how far you can swim in the given time for your class.

The maximum swimming times are:
Senior Boys 4 minutes
Senior Girls and Juniors 3 minutes
Minimus 2 minutes

Riding
Tetrathlon Courses always include a gate to open and close mounted, and a slip rail at which the competitor dismounts, takes down the rail, leads his pony or horse through, replaces the rail and remounts.

In Tetrathlon, a competitor who completes the course without penalty within the time allowed scores 1400 points, those with penalties have them deducted from 1400; and no-one can score less than 0.

Running
In Tetrathlon, runners go off at one minute intervals over a carefully measured course and each competitor’s time is measured.

The running distances are:
Senior Boys 3000m
Senior Girls and Juniors 1500
Minimus 1000m
